BSA trustees

Back toAbout the BSA

The trustees of the British Stammering Association plan the overall strategy and direction of BSA's work. You can email them on chair@stammering.org. These are the trustees for 2008/9:

Shaukat Ali Dr Shaukat Ali
I am a senior lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton and joined the BSA in the early 1990s. Since those days, I have lived abroad and here in the UK, but all through it the BSA has always been a constant source of support. As trustee for the past three years, I hope to give something, however little, back to help others.

Tanveer Ali Tanveer Ali
I am a Software Analyst from London. I joined the BSA in 2004 and got elected as a trustee in 2007. My commitment is to empower other people who stammer so that they are not stopped by fears and realise their dreams. I take particular interest in events and workshops that allow people who stammer to interact, share and go beyond their comfort zone. tanveerrameez@yahoo.com

A 'world that understands stammering'. The BSA takes a strong lead in this through its important projects and by being an excellent stammering information provider with its website. I will work with other Trustees to speak out to the media and MPs as well as reaching out to more stammerers. What do you want from us?

Rob Coe
Rob Coe
Despite stammering all of my life I have resisted the temptation for the disability to hinder my life - to varying degrees of success. Since joining the BSA in 2006 I have been inspired by the achievements of fellow stammers, mainly from events organised and sponsored by the BSA. I currently work as an English teacher and run a successful stammering self-help group in Cambridge. Email: cambridgeselfhelp@hotmail.co.uk

I began stammering from the age of eight. I have been with the Fire Service for thirty two years, having risen through ranks to become an Officer in Charge of a Watch but now inspecting the London Underground Sub Surface stations. My hobbies are acting and as a Radio Presenter at a local Hospital Radio Station. You can email me at radar.day@btopenworld.com

In the year ahead, from 2008, I will use my business and marketing experience to build new working relationships with the media, politicians, organisations and others. In particular, I will help the BSA to fight for the introduction of an effective Early Intervention policy and to change the false views which much of society still has of people who stammer. I would be delighted to hear from you: home tel 020 8274 0047 or email leys.geddes@btinternet.com

I'm an Honours Graduate in Economics & Politics with 35 years experience of working in Government. I feel strongly that BSA needs to act as an effective and campaigning voice on behalf of all people who stammer, young and not so young - while still retaining a sense of humour!

Vipan Narang Vipan Narang
I'm a qualified Chartered Accountant and have stammered since I was 18. I see the BSA continuing to build its foundation of services for people affected by stammering and attract funding for many new projects, including further children's initiatives, adult projects (e.g. careers guidance), the support networks and BSA's widely acclaimed website.

Velda Osborne Velda Osborne (Chair)
I took early retirement in 2006 after spending many years in the Office for National Statistics, specialising in social and medical statisics. My BSA membership dates back to the early 1980's. Currently my key priority for the charity is to establish an ongoing programme of high quality projects, because these are fundamental to our purpose and underpin our financial stability.

Trudy Stewart Dr Trudy Stewart
I have been working alongside children and adults who stammer for more than 30 years, and continue to be challenged and fascinated by the issues that arise. I have a particular interest in psychological aspects of stammering and group therapy. I am involved in clinical training of SLTs, research, teaching university courses, and have written extensively on stammering. I have been a supporter of BSA since its inception and have acted as an SLT advisor for many years.
