INTENSIVE STAMMERING THERAPY COURSES
These courses take the form of group speech therapy.
Intensive speech therapy stage 1 courses
Our approach to therapy encompasses exploration of the emotional and psychological aspects of stammering as well as working with the stammering itself. Intensive courses have been shown to be an excellent way for people who stammer to work on their speech. They provide students with a period of concentrated speech work as well as time to explore the psychological aspects of the problem.
All courses are structured so that there is an initial intensive period and then a break of four or five weeks followed by the final part of the course. This allows students to practise what they have learned in therapy within the context of their everyday lives. Follow-up therapy after the course is highly recommended.
Stammering therapy intensives: an integrated approach
These exciting new courses are developed from Catherine Montgomery's New York programme. They are suitable for those new to the City Lit as well as people who have done previous courses. The courses integrate desensitisation, block modification and cognitive therapy. The key difference is that they introduce a fluency technique, vocal fold management. At the end of each course participants can choose the combination of therapy tools that suits them best. (There is more about this course in How I escaped the comforts of stammering by a course participant, and Fluency techniques and the skills to use them in one course.)
