'Steps to ease in communication' - Mike Jones

Two 2-day workshops in Southampton, applying the concepts of NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) with the aim of creating more 'ease' in communication for people who stammer.

Mike writes:

Who is this suitable for?

Aimed at adults who can be fluent at times (even if infrequently). Also suitable for internalised, hidden or 'covert' stammering.

a. The workshops are not a 2 day 'wonder cure'.
b. Overcoming stammering is not a simple matter of using 'a technique'; it requires a much more 'holistic' approach of making changes at lots of different levels.
c. Focusing on 'fixing the problem' - as in speech correction methods - can keep a stammering mindset going.
d. The workshop is about adopting a totally different mindset that moves you beyond stammering.
e. Workshops are restricted to less than 20 people to enable everyone to get due attention.
The NLP approach simply stated is: if easy fluency is ever there, the cognitive-behavioural factors producing it can be harnessed and used more and more often until it becomes a habit.

The workshops are not any sort of quick fix. They are an introduction to the principles of NLP and the specific aspects of communication that I believe NLP can help 're-program' - the aim is to develop 'ease in communication'. The two days are very experiential, gradually introducing the concepts and doing practical work to support their understanding and application.

You do all the work (well almost)! The end of the workshop is a beginning; on leaving a person has to have accepted the utility of the processes; be courageous enough to start applying them; keep doing it until habitual. It's a challenge; but a hugely rewarding one.
