Bercow Review
Help raise support in Parliament for Early Day Motion
An Early Day Motion has been tabled in the House of Commons, calling for an Early Intervention policy for stammering. If your local MP hasn't signed it yet, please ask them to.
In July 2008, the Final Report of the Bercow Review (of Services for Children and Young People with Speech, Language and Communication Needs) is likely to address the issue of Early Intervention. This is an opportunity to reduce the incidence of stammering, by addressing it at the pre-school stage when there is a high likelihood of being able to help the child recover completely. You can see Leys Geddes' YouTube video on the topic.
Now Kate Hoey MP has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons, calling for an Early Intervention policy for stammering. You can view this on the UK Parliament website: EDM 1510. EDMs are not normally debated; their success is judged by the number of MPs who show their support for a motion by signing it.
So to help get our call for Early Intervention noticed by those in authority, we need to have as many MPs as possible sign the EDM. We rely on you to help raise awareness amongst the people who count - please contact your MP and ask them to sign this motion. You can find out who your MP is and how to contact him or her by going to theyworkforyou.com.
