SpeechEasy free trial

SpeechEasy device available for trial to BSA members

SpeechEasy devices are now available for trial to BSA members. This is a special arrangement offered by Capital Audiology who have been appointed dispensers of the device. They are located in the centre of London within walking distance of Oxford Circus Tube.

Devices such as SpeechEasy may help an individual who stammers to speak more fluently. SpeechEasy looks like a hearing aid but is based on the so called 'echo effect'. Basically it works by delaying your voice and altering the pitch. More on altered auditory feedback...

As well as private insurance for the device as suggested in Capital Audiology's terms and conditions, you may want bear in mind the high value of the device when considering any postal options.

Capital Audiology write:

How long is the trial?

The trial will last for 5 days which runs from Monday through to Friday. We expect demand to be high so to make things as fair as possible we are running a waiting list. Should the waiting list become longer then expected we shall endeavour to reduce the numbers by supplying more SpeechEasy devices to trial. Once you get onto the waiting list we will give you an approximate time of your trial, and two weeks before your actual trial we will alert you once more to invite you to come and see us with an actual date set.

What do I need to bring to the appointment?

-Valid Passport: we will take a copy of your passport for our records
-Valid Credit Card/debit card: we won't charge the card but will make a copy of both front and back of the card.
-Where a person is under 18, the minor will require parental permission to try the device.

What can I expect to happen in the appointment?

-Audiogram: we test your hearing
-Assessment of suitability of device
-Explanation of how the device works and what to expected in your trial
-You will be required to sign a form detailing that you agree to our terms and conditions - see Terms and conditions (pdf file) or as Word doc
-The appointment will last for approximately 1hr 30mins

Please note this is a free trial and requires a lot of time and effort to put this system into place. As such it requires that everybody who takes us up on this trial respects the time allocated to them. This means the appointments and the returning of the device must be adhered to to ensure it runs successively.

When does it start?

The start date will start very soon but you can still ask to be put on the waiting list in the mean time.
