BSA Summer Social - Hampstead Heath

Saturday 9th August, London

Pub sign
The Garden Gate pub, next to Hampstead Heath station.
This will be a very informal summer social on Hampstead Heath - either a pub or picnic lunch, depending on your choice, followed by a walk on the heath.

Garden Gate pub

The venue for the pub lunch will be The Garden Gate pub in South End Road, just a few minutes walk from Hampstead Heath station (see below 'Transport'). There is seating outside in the garden if the weather is good. We had planned to reserve a table, but there has been little advance interest shown. However we understand some BSA members may well go ahead with lunch in the pub anyway. Please contact the BSA office if you are interested and we should be able to put you in touch.

Picnic option

Alternatively you may prefer to have a picnic on the heath, depending on the weather. The congregating point for anyone who would like a picnic before the walk is also where the walk starts. This is at a large willow tree near the second pond (see photos and link to Google maps). If you want to buy food on arrival, rather than prepare a picnic, there are plenty of opportunities in South End Road, for example The Euphorium Bakery, take away pizzas & kebabs and an M&S Simply Food.

Walk

Weather permitting, those wishing to participate in a walk should congregate at the picnic spot at 3 pm.

Transport

to plan route to Garden Gate.
The Garden Gate pub is just a few minutes from Hampstead Heath station on the North London Line, part of London Overground. It looks likely at the moment that this part of the North London Line will be closed on the day, but there is a replacement bus service. Alternatively you can use the Northern Line to Belsize Park station and walk from there.
