BSA London Open Day 2010
When: Saturday 4th September
Where: Bethnal Green, London (see below 'Venue and travel')
The British Stammering Association would like to welcome all its members and their family and friends, and anyone affected by stammering (no need to be a member) to its London Open Day. The event will run from 10am to 5:30pm.
We are delighted that Ed Balls MP is taking time out of his busy schedule to attend the Open Day: Rt Hon Ed Balls MP to be Guest Speaker at BSA London Open Day.
The day will also offer an eclectic mix of workshops and presentations. Topics include:
Stress: to react or respond? City Lit,
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP),
McGuire Programme and Starfish Project
Alexander technique,
workshops dealing with public speaking, belief system, non-avoidance, schools etc.

Most importantly, the Open Day will provide an opportunity for anyone affected by stammering, to interact and share experiences with each other and make new friends.
Because there will not be a BSA National Conference this year, the AGM will also be held during the afternoon.
There is no charge for entry. A buffet lunch will be provided. As usual with Open Days, there will be a collection at lunchtime to cover the cost of the lunch, with any profits going to the BSA.
There will be an optional evening meal (see below) after the event (not provided by BSA). Let us know if you'd like to come.
The Open Day is being organised in conjunction with the London self-help group, which meets monthly at the Wenlock Arms, N1.
Contact
To plan with numbers, especially for lunch, it would be helpful if you could let us know if you will attend (email Steven at sh@stammering.org or call 020 8983 1003) - though you are very welcome to come along even without prior notice!
Venue and travel
The Open Day will be held at St. Margaret's House, Bethnal Green, just across the garden from BSA's offices at 15 Old Ford Road, E2 9PJ. The nearest underground station is Bethnal Green on the Central Line.
St. Margaret's House offers very good accommodation - there is a recently refurbished main hall together with a number of smaller rooms and we will also have access to the garden.
To get there, go through the arch from Old Ford Road and down the passageway to our office at No 15 (see this map and diagram) and there will be signs directing you to the hall for the Open Day.
As usual, there are some planned tube closures for the weekend. However, the Central Line is shown as open from central London (east of March Arch) though to Bethnal Green. Information on lines more generally:
www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/realtime - live travel news from Transport for London (TfL);
summary of planned engineering work 4/5 Sept (Word doc) - by TfL;
you can use JourneyPlanner (opens new window) to find the best route to the Open Day.
Evening meal
There will be the opportunity to go for an evening meal (not provided by the BSA) after the Open day in a nearby restaurant. The dinner is, of course, optional but if you would like to join us, please email Tanveer Ali (tanveerrameez@yahoo.com) so that we can book you a place at the restaurant.
Raffle prizes
BSA member Ron Smith is aiming to hold a raffle - so if you have any prizes you'd like to donate to the raffle, please bring them along on the day!
