'The King's Speech' play

The world première of David Seidler's original stage play which inspired the film had its closing night in the West End on 12th May 2012.

Charles Edwards (centre), Jonathan Hyde and Emma Fielding
'The King's Speech' stage version: Charles Edwards as King George VI, with Jonathan Hyde (Lionel Logue) and Emma Fielding (Queen Elizabeth).
'The King's Speech' play ran until 12th May at Wyndham's Theatre. However, the play and some of its cast may be heading to Broadway (link to express.co.uk).

The stage version was directed by Adrian Noble, former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. King George VI was played by Charles Edwards, with Jonathan Hyde as Lionel Logue.

The West End run closed early - the producers say they misjudged the time that needed to elapse between the film and the opening of the play.

The première was in Guildford on 2nd February. Before opening in the West End, the play went on tour to Nottingham, Bath, Brighton, Richmond and Newcastle.
