Speaking Out

On air in Doncaster... (Jamie)

An email from BSA in January sent me on an awareness mission involving two radio interviews and arranging two newspaper articles.

Despite one of the radio's receptionists having to ask me to repeat three times where I was calling from - "Doncaster SSSSStammering Association" - I managed to arrange some air time with Doncaster's two stations Trax FM and Sine FM for myself and Bob Adams (DSA Chair), including a few extra minutes should we sssstammer over our allocated time slot haha!

It being my first time, and knowing that one of the shows was due to be broadcast live during the afternoon rush hour, the nerves started to set in prior to entering the booth. Thoughts were running through my head of "What if it all goes Pete Tong and I hit a major block - resulting in radio silence, and listeners are left wondering what happened to their signal?" I also didn't want to slip into my occasional covert ways, so went in determined to be open. Thankfully it went well, and after I felt great for the achievement - but more importantly for raising awareness, which resulted in some listeners contacting us.
