2003 - European Year of People with Disabilities
2003 was the European Year of People with Disabilities (EYPD).
Activities and events took place over the year in the different participating countries, including the United Kingdom.
The European League of Stuttering Associations (ELSA) hosted a Stuttering and Disability Awareness conference in Strasbourg in October 2003, timed to coincide with International Stammering Awareness Day. The proceedings of the Conference are available in a February 2004 Special Edition of Voice of ELSA - contact BSA if you would like a copy.
At the conference, ELSA launched its new brochure International and European Disability Policy Relating to Stuttering: What you need to know and why. The brochure is available on the ELSA website www.elsa.info.
The European Parliament hosted a Disabled People's Parliament Event on 10-11 November 2003 at the Hemicycle in Brussels. ELSA's Anita Blom attended and gave a presentation at the plenary session. The text of the presentation is on the ELSA website www.elsa.info (see November 11 2003).
