Education
Parents' Project

Our Education Officer Cherry Hughes is currently working on the first of three CD Roms for parents to give detailed guidance on getting the best support for their child during preschool and school years.

There is nothing available to parents that brings all the information that they may need together in easily accessible form. The plan is to have this resource in easy to access sections, which can be printed off and used as required.

The resource will be wide-ranging and comprehensive so that parents will have the information to work productively with the preschool, or school staff, and if necessary challenge their decisions. Topics covered for example will include admissions policies, the complexities of the curriculum and examinations system, and policies on special educational needs, teasing and bullying.

There will be sections to be used by people other than the parents and the child, such as education staff involved with the child. The CDs could also be used for training within the nursery/school.

How you can help

If you are a parent, could you please help us by completing this parent questionnaire. This is to provide further guidance for the project. Cherry is also sending the questionnaire to parents via speech and language therapists, and plans to cover most of the country.

If you are a speech and language therapist, could you please help us by completing this SLT questionnaire.

Report updated: June 2007

Cherry Hughes can be contacted by phone on 01606-77374 or by email at ch@stammering.org.
