BSA Scotland Aims and Objectives
Aims:
raise awareness and understanding of stammering in Scotland more effectively
instigate specifically Scottish campaigns and projects
deliver accessible support services and events for people in Scotland who stammer, their families and the speech and language therapists who seek to help them
encourage empowerment by consulting and involving Scottish users at all levels
be aware of, responsive to, and influential regarding the policies of the Scottish Parliament to the benefit of all whose lives are affected by stammering.
Objectives for the first three years:
to establish a Scottish Steering Committee
to recruit a minimum of 15 volunteers, to be involved in a range of activities including answering Helpline calls, fund-raising and hosting outreach events
to launch a campaign to raise awareness and undertanding of stammering and promote the support BSA Scotland can provide
to increase membership of the BSA in Scotland
to stimulate and support local self-help groups
to investigate and establish Cross Party Group representation in the Scottish Parliament, to highlight stammering to the Scottish Executive
to instigate projects specifically designed to address the needs of people in Scotland who stammer
to research and develop a specific project to trial the use of telehealth in the treatment of stammering
to establish a new monthly telephone support group for 8 adults who stammer and a similar new group for parents
to establish a Scottish, volunteer based Helpline
to launch, in 2005, a bi-annual newsletter for Scottish BSA members, speech therapists, MSPs, volunteers and all interested parties.
to hold two Scottish 'open day' events for people who stammer and parents, the format to include workshops, debate, discussion and information exchange.
to enlist users in fund-raising initiatives in Scotland.
