New BSA Scotland office
8 Barclay Terrace, EH10 4HP
BSA Scotland took over its new Scottish Branch office on 1 June 2005. The new office, situated in Bruntsfield, central Edinburgh, was formerly a bric a brac shop and at time of access, was seriously in need of refurbishment and some 'tlc'.
The premises is 'intimate' and rental costs are commensurately low. It comprises a front shop area (now meeting space), galley kitchen and toilet. Office facilities are located on an existing mezzanine floor, the presence of which poses a challenge for anyone over 6' 2"!
Since gaining access, the office has been redecorated with help from members of the Edinburgh Stammering Support Group, my family and, most notably, Jon Elliot, who made the job his own (and shares his experiences in the Autumn 2005 issue of blether). Profound thanks to all who have done their bit.
The office represents a significant stage in the progress of BSA Scotland as we now have a publicly identifiable Scottish base, where meetings can take place, members can visit and volunteers can participate. It also sends out a very important message - we are here to stay and stammering can no longer be swept under the carpet in Scotland.
Please do come and visit. The coffee is decent, metered parking is available close by and the office is on several public bus routes (11, 15, 16, 17, 23 and 45).
