Stammering Information
Self-help index
Groups
Check whether there is a self-help group meeting in your area (or you could start a group). Sharing and discussing a problem with others who stammer is often helpful.
Even if there is no local group, many internet groups offer support and discussion. BSA itself runs a telephone link scheme (list for one-to-one phone calls), the E-friends email list, and a telephone self-help group for conference calls.
There are also groups focussing on public speaking, which may help with confidence-building.
Events
BSA conferences, Open Days, and other events are also opportunities to meet people who stammer, and often include workshops you can attend. There are current details on our events page.
Reading matter and multimedia
You can order an information pack from our Information and Support Service.
There is a lot of material on our website and the internet generally. For example, some approaches that people work with on their own or in a group of like-minded people are ways of dealing with telephone calls and public speaking / presentations; avoidance reduction; Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP); electronic fluency devices and software; assertiveness; and meditation, yoga, and relaxation.
We have a large BSA members' library which includes books, audio and video (check out Top choices for some of the most popular items). The BSA shop sells a smaller selection of books and other resources. Our Sound and video online page links to various online films and audio.
Becoming a member of BSA will entitle you to our quarterly magazine Speaking Out, as well as our members' newsletter and access to the library.
