Notes:
This is a friendly and informal support group for people who stammer living broadly in the Gt Yarmouth/Waveney/east Suffolk/Norfolk area (N.B. Ambitious as it might sound, we've decided we can cover all Norfolk. We are restricting our 'definition' to east Suffolk for the moment). It is not a dogmatic boundary and those from slightly outside the area are welcome if they can put up with the travelling distances.

Meetings are usually once a month. We have mainly based ourselves at Norwich at The Rushcutters public house, Yarmouth Road, Thorpe St Andrew. However, we have occasional meetings at Yoxford (on the A12 about 20 miles south of Lowestoft and 25 miles north of Ipswich), because we have two participants who live that way. Most people have a meal but it's not obligatory. It's realised that it's expensive for some, who come along a bit later just for a drink. We keep under review the places we have meetings, depending on where we receive enquiries from.

A number of qualified and student speech and language therapists also attend including some involved with assessing and treating children who stammer. However, the group is not primarily about speech therapy, but about the sharing of problems and experiences and offering mutual support. We have guest speakers from time to time.

If you live in or near our area and you stammer or are affected by it or have a professional interest in stammering, please get in touch. You will find us a friendly and welcoming bunch.

Hoping to hear from you.

John Thompson
