Notes:
The group meets on a fortnightly basis during term time on Tuesdays 7.00-9.00pm, during Summer, Winter and Autumn.
It started in September 1986 and was a spin-off from a therapy group at the former Nottingham General Hospital. At that time the members used the meeting to practice the technique of prolonged speech and other specific therapies.
With a changing membership over subsequent years, new priorities became apparent. The group continued to offer technique practice whilst also including social evenings, discussion topics and guest speakers in its meetings. Since 1990 a programme of meetings has been issued quarterly and distributed to all group members.
In addition to the fortnightly meetings, the group has also been involved in organising three successful Open Days on behalf of the British Stammering Association in 1987, 1989 and 1993. The group was also chosen to be the local hosts and organisers of BSA's first national conference at Swanwick, Derbyshire in 1995.
We offer a chance to talk over the problems we all experience with our speech, in a friendly and informal environment with others who have similar problems.
Anyone who stammers or who has stammered in the past is welcome to attend meetings. Spouses, partners and friends are also welcome.
Membership is free, although a small charge is made to cover the cost of the meeting room.
Light refreshments are also available from the centre's Coffee Shop.
