The BSA website hosted a poll to name the new NHS regional speech and language therapy service in Leeds. After more than 170 responses the final name chosen was Stammering Support Centre.
The Stammering Support Centre will provide support, specialist care and practical help for children and adults with a stammer. It will be staffed by NHS speech and language therapists who already provide services in Leeds and will be building on over 30 years service in this specialist field of work.
"It has been important to us to get the public involved in naming this new facility and especially those who will potentially use the services on offer. The British Stammering Association have been hugely helpful in that regard," commented Dr Trudy Stewart, consultant speech and language therapist at Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, who is also a BSA trustee.
"When the Stammering Support Centre is up and running we hope that children and their families and adults across Yorkshire and the Humber will be able to access high quality services and that we can be a resource for speech and language therapists and others working with clients who stammer."
