Find a local self-help group

Self-help groups are a great way to get support and meet other people who stammer.

What is a 'Self-help Group'?

Doncaster self-help groupA group of people who stammer and get together, typically, once or twice a month. Each group has its own aims and methods of working but all offer a safe, non-judgmental environment in which stammerers can share experiences. Some invite a speech therapist along, and are keen to practice 'speaking in public' and some set aside time for a game of nine-pin bowling or a convivial drink in a pub. All have a live wire organiser!

Self-help groups can be invaluable as a means of meeting others, finding encouragement and remembering you are not alone.
